On June 21, 2021, LifePoint announced an agreement to acquire Kindred Healthcare, one of the nation’s largest providers of post-acute care. LifePoint is branching out of its core business of general hospitals and entering the post-acute space - in a big way. In that sense, it is said to be a “vertical” merger, where two companies produce different services along the same value chain.
