The COVID-19 pandemic may not be completely over, but the Delta variant wave is finally receding in much of the United States.

New coronavirus infections have dropped nearly 60 percent since a September spike brought on by the more contagious delta variant. After 22 months of living with COVID-19, it’s a good time to take stock of lessons learned and some of the best, new books on the pandemic. In the following pages, we distill lessons from some of the most significant, recent essays from Foreign Affairs, Journal of American Medical Assn (JAMA), Health Affairs, The Atlantic, and Yale Medicine. We close by noting six recent books, each of which offers a different perspective on lessons learned during the pandemic.
